Sarc it to me!

The power of five!

This week we are well into the Games of the XXXI Olympiad or 2016 Olympics from Rio. The Olympics are well represented by its Flag featuring the five Olympic rings.  Five “Golden Rings” are featured in the Christmas song “Twelve Days of Christmas“‘ we have five senses; and we are now only five weeks away to our very own “Orchid Show and Sales Extravaganza.”

This week we will focus on the Sarcochilus. Most Sarcochilus (pronounced Sar-co-kyle-us) orchids are native to Australia; with only one species being found overseas. The most widely grown species (Sarcochilus hartmannii, S. fitzgeraldii and S. ceciliae) grow on rocks in the areas of New South Wales or Queensland. However all three of these species grow happily in pots in Melbourne shade houses. For more information see our special Sarcochilus page.
