The Judges Vote | The Popular Vote
At most SSOS meetings, members have an opportunity to ‘bench’ their flowering orchids for judging. There are three sections in which members can enter the competition which include:
- Novice | Intermediate | Open
SSOS allows its members to vote for their favourite plant on show at each monthly meeting as well.
- On most occasions, what the “people” like is vastly different to what the Judges like, but occasionally everyone agrees!

- November 2018
Judges Vote and Winner Open Section: Sarcochilus Nicky’s Twin Bees. The Popular Vote went to cascading Cymbidium Plush Canyon ‘Beenak’
- October 2018
Judges Vote: went to Dendrobium speciosum Windermere x Daylight Moon, seedling flowering for the first time. Popular vote: went to Vanda coerulea
- September 2018
The Judges Vote went to a seedling flowering for the first time – Lycaste Hanase x Shoalhaven. This has since received an HCC OSCOV award and is now known as Hanamikuuji ‘Hanna Hudson’.
The Popular vote went to Dendrobium nugentii.
- August 2018
It’s a Draw – Yes, both Judges and Members agreed – This was the ‘Best on Show’ for the night – a Dendrobium nugentii.
