Members of Southern Suburbs Orchid Society (SSOS) have the opportunity to be involved in showing their plants for judging at both local and wider range competitions.
Club Competition
Each year SSOS runs monthly competitions for its members. There are three categories in which they can compete in: Novice, Intermediate and Open.
- The point system is accumulative during the year. Overall point winners for each division are awarded at the December meeting.
- The Lobb Trophy is a major SSOS Trophy which is also awarded at the December meeting.
- Prizes and trophies are awarded to members for winning plants and stands on display at the SSOS Annual Spring Show.
Inter-Club Competition
The Three Club Invitational Challenge is held each May between Mornington Peninsula Orchid Society (MPOS), Dandenong and District Orchid Club (DDOC) and SSOS. The winner of the current year is responsible for hosting the following year’s challenge. Prestige prizes for this competition include Champions for various categories along with Champion Orchid of the Show and the Reserve Champion of the Show.
State Competition
SSOS is an active supporter and competitor at the Annual OSCOV Orchid Extravaganza show held each August in Melbourne. There are many categories which clubs can enter members plants for prizes and overall Champion prizes are available to all club exhibitors.
Special Awards
Special awards may be presented throughout the year to members for their service to the Club or excellence in growing, cultivation or exhibition of plants at competition level to which they may be awarded a special certificates.
