We had a wonderful night at Piazza Vercelli on Thursday 17th August to celebrate 25 years since the formation of Southern Suburbs Orchid Society, (SSOS), a member of the Orchid Societies Council of Victoria (OSCOV).
Our esteemed guests for the night were Julian Coker, the founding President and now Patron of OSCOV; and his wife and business partner Frances; who were able to join us, as was their son and current OSCOV President Michael Coker. Julian was also a founding member of SSOS and several other Victorian clubs. Julian and Frances also own Atlantis Orchids.
- We were also delighted that Stephen and Meryl Early were able to attend as they have been dealing with a number of health issues with both their parents.
- Unfortunately, Ern Kettle was not able to join us but sent us his thanks for the invitation and his apologies.
We also took advantage of the 25th Anniversary occasion to award our esteemed original SSOS member Robert Harrison, with an OSCOV Medal for his outstanding contribution to our Club over the past 25 years. Bob joined in December 1992 and has been a committee member for over 20 years.
- Our gratitude is extended to the following SSOS Committee members Alan and Janeen Randle, Frank and Heather Formica and Tess Liston for planning and decorating the venue and in general, helping make the night a great success.
Many who attended this successful festive occasion have requested that we make this an annual event, to which the Committee has acknowledged and will further investigate.
Apparently as anniversary celebrations are concerned, if the 25th is Silver, apparently the 26th is Pictures, 27th Sculptures and 28th Year ORCHIDS!
